WASHINGTON, D.C., December 10, 2002—The Soap and Detergent Association (SDA) Board of Directors has named SDA President Ernie Rosenberg Chief Executive Officer of the Association, effectively immediately. Rosenberg will retain the title of President.

The Board took the action at its most recent meeting in Washington, D.C. In years past, the elected Chairman of the Board wore the title of Chief Executive Officer. Board members approved a by-laws change to more accurately reflect the roles and responsibilities of SDA's top executive.

"The Board's action reflects the fact that Ernie Rosenberg has effectively been carrying out the duties of both President and CEO during the past three years," said SDA Board Chairman Robert McDonald, President—Global Fabric & Home Care, The Procter & Gamble Company.

"Under Ernie's tenure, SDA has successfully established itself in Washington D.C. after moving from New York City. As the home of cleaning products industry in the United States, SDA is more effective than ever in representing the industry in a responsible, progressive and science-based manner."

Rosenberg joined SDA as President in November 1999. He previously worked at the Occidental Petroleum Corporation, most recently as Vice President of Health, Environment and Safety for its Occidental International subsidiary. He began his career with the Federal Trade Commission and later held several positions with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, including Chief of the Premanufacture Notification Branch of the Office of Toxic Substances (OTS) and Acting Deputy Director of the Chemical Control Division of OTS.
