SDA Names Douglas Troutman Director, Government Affairs

Served as Aide to Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA), Lobbyist on Energy-related Issues

WASHINGTON, DC – December 11, 2007 – The Soap and Detergent Association (SDA) has named Douglas M. Troutman as its new Director of Government Affairs, bringing more than 15 years of Capitol Hill and lobbying experience to the home of the U.S. cleaning products industry.

Troutman joins SDA from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Inc.’s Washington, D.C. office, where he was Senior Manager, Legislative Affairs. He previously worked as Senior Manager, Government Relations, at the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) in Arlington, VA. Troutman focused primarily on energy issues during his tenure at UL and NEMA.

In the early 1990s, Troutman was a legislative aide to U.S. Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA). He later worked as Associate Vice President at Newmyer Associates in Arlington, and served as a law clerk in the Delaware County (PA) District Attorney’s Office. In 2000, Troutman gained a law degree at Villanova University School of Law.

“Doug Troutman’s experience on Capitol Hill and his understanding of the challenges manufacturers face every day will strengthen SDA’s advocacy efforts on behalf of our members,” said Dennis Griesing, SDA Vice President, Government Affairs.

Troutman is a graduate of The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., with a B.A. in International Affairs and Russian Studies.
