SDA’s Richard Sedlak Promoted to Senior Vice President, Technical and International Affairs

Association Also Promotes Kathleen Stanton to Associate Director, Scientific Affairs

WASHINGTON, D.C., January 26, 2005 – Richard I. Sedlak, a 28-year veteran of The Soap and Detergent Association (SDA), has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Technical and International Affairs.

SDA also announced the promotion of Kathleen Stanton to Associate Director, Scientific Affairs.

“For years, SDA has been respected and recognized for its leadership on scientific, technical and regulatory issues affecting the cleaning product and oleochemical industries. A big reason for that is Rich Sedlak. His knowledge, depth of experience and international reputation has and will continue to serve SDA and our members well,” said Ernie Rosenberg, SDA President and CEO.

“In her short time with SDA, Kathy Stanton has been a valuable addition to our staff. She has brought energy, focus and enthusiasm to her work related to SDA’s scientific and oleochemical-related programs,” added Rosenberg.

Sedlak is a recognized expert in the environmental fate and toxicology of cleaning product chemicals. His experience includes research on the treatability and compatibility of detergent ingredients in municipal and on-site wastewater treatment systems, including field assessments, and the development of treatment technologies for these ingredients.

In recent years, Sedlak has been a leader in coordinating U.S. and international industry input to United Nations initiatives on chemical management. He has contributed to international initiatives to develop a globally harmonized system for chemical classification and labeling, risk assessments for high production volume chemicals, and enhanced tools for chemical risk communication. He has also managed SDA’s program to enhance collaborations on technical, regulatory and public policy issues that could impact cleaning products with industry organizations in other countries. Sedlak graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a B.S in Biology and M.S. in Environmental Engineering.

Prior to her arrival at SDA in 2002, Stanton worked at the Department of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD, where she served as a Research Associate. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Manhattan (NY) College and a Master of Science degree in Applied Ecology/Conservation Biology from Frostburg (MD) State University. Stanton's duties include research and analysis to support SDA's technical, scientific and oleochemical programs.
