PQ CORP'S STAN SILVERMAN ELECTED SDA BOARD CHAIR; UNILEVER'S ALAN JOPE TO SERVE AS VICE CHAIR

New Directors Include Executives From Church & Dwight, Colgate-Palmolive, Genencor, Novozymes, Reckitt Benckiser

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 4, 2004 - Stanley W. Silverman, President and CEO of PQ Corporation (www.pq.com), was elected as the new chair of The Soap and Detergent Association Board of Directors during SDA's 78th Annual Meeting & Industry Convention at the Boca Raton (Florida) Resort & Club. Silverman succeeds Robert A. McDonald, President - Global Fabric & Home Care, The Procter & Gamble Company (www.pg.com), who served as Board chair for the past two years, but who will remain on the Board.

The Board also elected Alan Jope, COO, Unilever Home and Personal Care, (www.unilever.com), as Board Vice Chair. Silverman had served the past two years in the Vice Chair position.

"As the home of the U.S. cleaning product and oleochemical industries, SDA is fortunate to have top-level, senior executives serving on its Board from all sectors of the industry," said Ernie Rosenberg, SDA President and CEO. "SDA represents a cross-section of the cleaning products industry, from the largest to the smallest companies. Producers of household, institutional and industrial cleaning products, ingredient suppliers and makers of finished packaging are all equal members of the Association.

"Oleochemical producers, whether or not they supply the cleaning products industry, also call the SDA home. This diverse representation in our membership distinguishes SDA from most cleaning products associations in the world and is one of our greatest strengths."

During its Annual Meeting, SDA members elected the entire slate of the 2004 Board of Directors, which includes several new Directors:
